Christmas season is here!
Hello 2019 readers! Our 2018 Christmas Tree Farm blog post was a hit last season, so here I am updating all the information for 2019.

So, two years ago David & I decided to start a new family tradition, and take our daughter to a real Christmas Tree farm instead of choosing a pre-wrapped tree from a big-name-store lot, and we would pick out a our dreamy Christmas tree, cut it down ourselves, strap it our vehicle, and decorate it together in our living room.
Turns out there are a lot of Christmas Tree Farms in and near Ottawa that offer cut-your-own and pre-cut trees, along with all different types of experiences.
The very first year we picked Thomas Tree Farm in North Gower - pretty much because it was the only one we could find on google that said it was open during the week. David works as a bartender, that means he sleeps all day and gets up to go to work all night, weekends included. We LIVE for any family place that caters to the shift-work families and are open weekdays and weeknights.
So Thomas Tree Farm it was, and it was everything we wanted for our first experience: family run (like the sweetest family ever!), open on weekday, hot chocolate for our cold snow-trekking bodies, and of course beautiful trees. So, we went back AGAIN last year - and loved it even more. So much so we haven’t even given the other tree farms a chance, but that doesn’t mean you can’t! Maybe you and/or your family wants to visit a different tree farm every year? Maybe you just need the one closest to home? Maybe you need one that has Santa visits, a craft shop, and horse drawn carriage rides?
This post is not sponsored in any way by any one. Just a mom who gets frustrated by googling things and not being able to find the information I need WHEN I need it. Especially because in my initial researching, I found a lot of information about the tree farms in bits and pieces just scattered between Facebook, websites, instagram, and other random media. Understandable as most of these are family run, and either don’t have the resources or the know-how to keep their websites/social media updated! (I know of one who depends on the grandkids to make one post a year about opening day!)
I am hoping to make your choice easier this year - by getting all the information on one page, quickly and efficiently. Again - I was not paid or sponsored by any farm on this list - just want to spread the word! I apologize if any information is NOT accurate, I am trying my best, and going only by the information I can find. Please send me an email if I need to update or add anything!

Please remember, these are family run businesses,
politeness and understanding go a long way!!!
A few tips to know BEFORE you go:
If you are not heading out on a weekend, CALL before you go to make sure they are open & running
Same goes for terrible weather - give them a call to make sure everything is open - when it is icy some operations have to shut down
Some Tree Farms are DOG-friendly, please CALL about their policy before bringing any fur babies
Most places close before Christmas Eve, some close when they run out of trees available to cut for the year, again please CALL if you plan to go really close to Christmas
If you have a saw, bring it - if the farm is busy, you may have to wait to borrow one! NO AXES. NO CHAINSAWS.
Cash is always best - but some farms have other methods of payment
Bring something to protect the roof of your car if you wish to protect your roof from scratches - a blanket, drop cloth, or tarp works best!
On that note, bring rope or bungee cords to tie your tree down. It’s windy out there!
Dress super warm, wear thick gloves (those trees are prickly!), bring the whole family, take pictures and remember - this is fun and you are creating memories!
