When I was growing up, we would chop beautiful Christmas trees down from our own property, picking out an even more perfect tree year-after-year. So you can understand how different it was, coming to the city and buying one from a lot. Where these “Christmas Trees” are already wrapped in twine - so it is a surprise until you get home - and sometimes that means you will have your dream tree, other times, meaning you will get a tree that looks like the squirrels ate half of it (WHAT IS WITH THE CITY SQUIRRELS ANYWAY?!?!)

So, last year, David & I decided to start our very own family tradition, and take our daughter to a real Christmas Tree farm, and we would pick out a beautiful tree, saw it down, strap it our vehicle, and bask in all its glory when it is up in our living room.
Turns out there are a lot of Christmas Tree Farms in and near Ottawa that offer cut-your-own and pre-cut trees, along with all different types of experiences.
Last year, we picked Thomas Tree Farm and it was everything we wanted for our first experience: family run (like the sweetest family ever!), opening during the week, hot chocolate, and of course beautiful trees.
This year we were just debating if we should go back, or if we should try another farm just to see what else is out there (perhaps one that is closer to us!)
In my researching I found a lot of information about the tree farms just scattered between Facebook, websites, and other random media.
I am hoping to make your choice easier this year - by getting all the information on one page, quickly and efficiently. I was not paid or sponsored by any farm on this list - just want to spread the word!

Please remember, these are family run businesses,
politeness and understanding go a long way
A few tips to know BEFORE you go:
If you are not heading out on a weekend, CALL before you go to make sure they are open & running
Same goes for terrible weather - give them a call to make sure everything is open - when it is icy some operations have to shut down
Some Tree Farms are DOG-friendly, please CALL about their policy before bringing any fur babies
Most places close before Christmas Eve, some close when they run out of trees available to cut for the year, again please CALL if you plan to go really close to Christmas
If you have a saw, bring it - if the farm is busy, you may have to wait to borrow one! NO AXES. NO CHAINSAWS.
Cash is always best - but some farms have other methods of payment
Bring something to protect the roof of your car if you wish to protect your roof from scratches - a blanket or tarp works best!
Dress warm, wear thick gloves (those trees are prickly!), bring the whole family, take pictures and remember - this is fun and you are creating memories!
