We got featured on @Meowbox!

If you have cats and don't know what Meowbox is - you are missing out! Here is a little Meowbox Review for you. I wanted to try a "subscriber-box" and there are so many options out there it was hard to decide. Browsing "Canadian Subscription Boxes" on google brought me to a smaller more refined list of boxes that would ship to Canada. When I saw the Meowbox for cats (and we have three lovely fur babies!) - I was sold on my very first subscription box!

Our not-so-little babies: Lebowski, Javier, and Caramel loved it and attacked the box upon arrival!

A little more about Meowbox:

A customized box of goodies including treats and toys for cats! They have an office in Vancouver, BC (yay, Canada!) If your feline friends have dietary restrictions, they can substitute all treats for non-edible items! Also, for every Meowbox you buy, the company donates a can of food to a cat-in-need, and through your account you can even track exactly where your can of food ended up. They call this program "One Box Can." This month my can was delivered to Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS) in Athabasca, AB, Canada!

Our first box was Halloween themed and included products from:

Bavarian Cat Toys (Welli Fish) The Empurrium (Candy Corn Catnip Toy) Ruff & Whiskerz (Wildlife Cherperz) Pet Stages (Plaque away Pretzel) Have Paws (Jerky Chips)

We cannot wait for our second box, and hoping either November or December's box will include Christmas treats (maybe a Santa-themed bowtie?!?! hint hint!)

One month later, our cats are still playing with the toys & the box! We really appreciated the handwritten message inside the box.

Today, Meowbox featured us on their twitter page! Check it out here: Our Kitties are on Twitter

Thanks, Meowbox, for the monthly entertainment - we can't wait for more surprises :) We will definitely recommend you to our other feline-friends!

Paris

I was at a loss for words yesterday when I found out about Paris. Spending time there last year, getting to see the one city I spent years dreaming about, truly changed my life. I could not jump on board with "#prayforparis" - as I am not religious at all, and I have never prayed in my life. I saw these posts on Instagram by Joann Sfar, a Charlie Hebdo cartoonist, & they truly resonated with me. #ParisisaboutLife❤️🇫🇷 Paris, I send you my love.

(translation below)

"France is an old country where lovers embrace freely. Paris is our capital. We love music, drinking, joy. For centuries, those who love death have tried to make us lose our lust for life. They never succeed. Those who love, those who love life - in the end, they're the ones who win. It's beautiful, the motto of Paris: 'She is tossed by the waves but does not sink.' Friends from the whole world, thank you for #prayforParis, but we don't need more religion! Our faith goes to music! Kisses! Life! Champagne and joy! #Parisisaboutlife. Terrorism is not the enemy. Terrorism is a tactic. Repeating 'We are at war' without finding the courage to name our enemies leads nowhere. Our enemies are those who love death. They have been around forever, in different guises. History is quickly forgotten, and Paris, who told them off, dies. The people who died tonight were out living, drinking, singing. They did not know they had declared war. Instead of letting ourselves become divided, remember all that is precious: our way of life. Lovers of death: if God exists, he hates you. And you have already lost, both on earth and in heaven. Paris's motto curses in the face of death: 'She is tossed by the waves but does not sink.'" - @joannsfar (please excuse any translation errors) #paris #loveforparis #joannsfar #whenwillitend http://ift.tt/1OKZWzG

Closets overfull? Donate your fancy dresses to Fairy Godmother!

10926816_10152737142322405_6761460701016572221_o-1.png

With a move underway in just a few weeks, and a very pregnant belly - I figured it was perfect time to sort through clothes for the upcoming summer. So, other than a few sentimental pieces, anything that I haven't worn in over a year (pre-pregnancy) I piled up to be donated if it was in great shape.

Then I got to thinking about all the pretty dresses I was keeping this year: mostly empire waists and maxi dresses, because now that the sun is here, they will be perfect to wear over this growing baby bump!

Since I won't be making any fancy dress donations this year, I hope you all will. The organization I have always donated my fancy dresses and shoes every year to is called Fairy Godmother of Ottawa. They are a wonderful non-profit organization, started by two fantastic women in 2002, that collects new and fairly-new fancy-style dresses, shoes, and some accessories to help out high school girls in need to have the prom of their dreams.

I absolutely am in love with the idea of this organization. I remember oh-so-long ago, formal was coming, and going into so many stores looking for the discounted dress because anything over $100 was absurd for my family to be able to afford for a dress I would wear only once. It just so seemed that every store we went to anything that was considered "fancy" enough to wear to prom, the prices were well over $300, some as high as $1000. Looking back, I did end up finding a beautiful dress, but you could tell were a lot more expensive and elegant dresses than the one I was wearing. If this organization would be have been around when I was in high school, I definitely would have sought out their service to help me find the perfect prom dress, so I could fit in with all the other girls.

Now they aren't looking for your old-dusty-should-have-never-worn-that-style dress you have been hiding in your closet since your prom. Anything that is barely worn, or brand new can be donated but it should be something that a girl would wear. Something you would let your daughters, nieces, and best friends borrow from your closet. Do visit their website for all items accepted and rules for donations: http://www.fairygodmotherottawa.com

All donations can be made at any Brown's Cleaners locations in Ottawa. To view a complete list visit here: http://www.brownscleaners.ca/locations.html

So please, if you have any formal style dresses, please donate to this totally awesome organization. The sooner the better (they start loaning out dresses May 9, 2015!) Even if you don't have any dresses or shoes to donate, they do accept new items including dresses, shoes, purses, accessories, cosmetics, and hosiery.

Also, if you know of any Ottawa high-school senior girls in need, please direct them to the Fairy Godmother website for more information.

Go find Fairy Godmother now and spread the word!
